Video Lesson: Ghost Note Exercises for the Drum Pad

Boo! This is one Spooky Halloween Lesson! Ghost Note exercises for the drum pad!

If you’re like me, you may have trouble practicing on a full drum kit - too loud, too much space, not enough time.

Use my simple exercises to make sure your ghost notes don’t join the land of the dead!

The books I mentioned in the video (or mentioned, then edited out) are:

Dom Famularo - It’s Your Move - for learning the different types of strokes and stick heights, plus many more exercises for the drums.

Charley Wilcoxon - All-American Drummer - Rudimental snare solos to get your chops working!

Benny Greb - The Language of Drumming - This book teaches a complete system for achieving freedom of expression on the drum set, based on how we learn language.

Mark Guiliana - Exploring Your Creativity on The Drum Set - Another amazing book about learning to improvise and being creative, featuring Mark’s DROP system.

Joel Rothman - Teaching Rhythm - This is my go-to book for learning to read music.

Ted Reed - Syncopation - This is the seminal book for teaching students to read music, with so many uses beyond just reading.

George L. Stone - Stick Control - This might be the greatest drum book of all time. Combine these sticking patterns with Dom’s first-hand knowledge of how this book works (his teacher was a student of Stone’s!) and you’ll be on the fast track to total… stick control!
